Sign the Petition!

We at Save the Strip Fondren have posted a petition on iPetitions to support the 1930s Fondren strip that is at the heart of our neighborhood and to speak in opposition to recently published plans by one local developer to demolish the strip and build a massive and monolithic development, called Whitney Place, similar to the Renaissance mall in Madison County.

If you agree that our vibrant Fondren Strip should be saved, head over and read the petition and add your voice! Thank you!

Celebrate the Strip Party!

SAVE THE STRIP FONDREN would like to announce a Celebrate the Strip Party that will take
place on October 6, 2011, during Fondren After 5 in the parking lot of Kolb’s Cleaners (2933
North State St., Jackson). There will be live music pumping and drinks flowing. Food will be
available at several shops located in the Strip.

The purpose of this event is to raise further awareness and seek expanded support for our
petition and to encourage people to experience the vitality of The Strip and of Fondren for
themselves.

Our group was founded in response to early renderings of the proposed Whitney Place
development. We do NOT oppose the development. However, we do oppose plans that call for
the demolition of the existing buildings known as The Strip (State Street between Mitchell and
the Pix/Capri Theater) to make way for that development.

Our online petition was launched earlier in the year to make the developers aware of residents’
concerns. The current number of signatures is 378. We will have representatives on site to
collect more signatures. However, online supporters are encouraged to follow this link to the petition and add their signatures.

We hope to see you next week on the Strip!
